Breasts are a defining characteristic of femininity. Perky and full in our youth, breasts begin to sag and slowly descend with the age and child -rearing. If in the unfortunate case that they fall victim to breast cancer, they may have to be removed via mastectomy or left disfigured through treatments. Whatever the case may be, post breast cancer patients and cosmetic patients alike have access to similar corrective options.

Breast implants

Traditionally, breast augmentations are done with synthetic breast implants which are surgically inserted underneath or over – top the pectoral muscle. At Advanced Plastic Surgery, we carry Mentor implants in all shapes and sizes to your liking.

Active Breast Augmentation

Our office also offers an Active Augmentation option, great for patients who would like to undergo breast augmentation without the downtime associated with general anesthesia. Not everyone is a candidate for Active Breast Augmentation. This procedure serves best patients desiring modest to moderate breast augmentation and for whom breast lift is not indicated. This procedure also includes breast implants, but it does not require a hospital or ambulatory facility because the patient is not put under general anesthesia. Oral anesthetics are given to the patient and the augmentation itself is done in the procedure room of the office. Facility fees are therefore reduced, and the patient can comfortably go home after the effects of anesthesia wear off!

Natural Augmentation

As a final option, our office offers a natural augmentation option to achieve the same results as breast implants. Recent media and studies have instilled a fear of implants in some women, making natural fat grafting a more feasible option. In simplest terms, fat grafting entails two parts: liposuction of “donor” fat from the fat source (which can come from the tummy, thighs, or back) and re-injection into the breasts. Dr. Timek specializes in fat grafting to the breasts for both cosmetic and post-breast cancer patients, and the benefits are numerous for both demographics. Not only is the patient receiving fuller, perkier breasts after the procedure, but there is no risk of reaction from synthetic material! It is like hitting two bird with one stone – fat is removed from a place where it is unwanted and reintroduced where it is wanted! Moreover, it will grow with you. Your breasts will gain and lose weight with you because they will be composed of your own tissue. Natural and beautiful, breast augmentation via fat grafting yields numerous benefits to regaining that sense of femininity.

Whichever procedure route you decide to take, know that each of them accomplishes the same thing- only through different means. The decision of which to undergo remains solely up to the patient. More generally, any cosmetic procedure should remain only up to you- the patient! Do not subject yourself to going under the knife to fit some image or standard or someone else. At the end of the day, you will be left with your body, your vessel – so love it!
