Surgical and non-surgical options for younger look

Gravity, stress, and aging are inescapable factors that contribute to the sagging of our bodies and face with time. The fat in the face specifically begins to sag, atrophy or die away, leaving one with an reduced and displaced fat some areas and excess skin in in others. The chin duplicates, the jowls droop, the eyes appear hollow underneath, and wrinkles are abundant. Though the aging process cannot naturally be stopped, there exist surgical and non-surgical options for restoring volume and shape to the face. One such surgical procedure is a rhytidectomy, also known as a facelift, which permanently allows the patient to shave off many years from their physical appearance and eliminate sagging facial features.

Types of facelift

There can be varieties of facelifts, depending on the aesthetic desires of the patient. A traditional facelift involves an incision from the hairline at the temples and continues around the ear, ending in the lower scalp. Having access to the fatty layers beneath the skin, the surgeon can take fat from the jowl, chin, and neck and sculpt, reposition, and redistribute it. After the skin is covered over the face, the results are lifted facial muscles and tighter skin. The limited incision facelift only utilizes an incision around the earlobe and not the temple. This procedure may also include lower eyelid incisions. An extension of a facelift is a neck lift. Like a facelift, incisions of the neck lift procedure begin in front of the ear lobe, wrap around behind the ear, and end in the lower scalp. There is typically an incision under the chin to correct platysma banding. The beneficial thing about any facial surgical procedures is that they are structured in such a way as to minimize the appearance of visible scarring; therefore, the incisions are so cleverly small and hidden in the natural contours of the face! There will be swelling and bruising after the surgery, but the results will be worthwhile.

The main concern

When considering any facial procedures, the main concern comes from how one will look after the procedure. This is something that cannot be predicted, only hoped for. The most important part in soothing fears while ensuring that both you and your surgeon understand what you want to achieve through this surgery is honest and assertive conversation! There are no stupid or unwanted questions! To further allay your worries, make sure to bring someone into your consultation, write down questions before the consultation, or even call the office to ask for literature concerning your procedure. It is also important to choose a plastic surgeon that is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, a body that ensures both ethical and medical standards for reconstructive and cosmetic procedures.

Alternative options

Alternatives to such a permanent commitment that is a facelift includes the liquid lift offered at Advanced Plastic Surgery and fat grafting to the face. The liquid lift utilizes hyaluronic acid volumizers which naturally occurs in the body to enhance contour deficiencies in the cheeks, lips, and around the eyes. Volumizers can also be used as a substitute for facial implants in the chin and nose, thereby avoiding surgery. These treatments are temporary options that instantaneously enhance the structure of the face while avoiding implantation of foreign bodies. Filler treatments are not permanent like surgical facelifts, but they allow a patient to incrementally adjust their look before potentially committing to surgery. Fat grafting is also beneficial because it kills two birds with one stone. With the help of liposuction, fat is taken from areas of the body where it is unwanted and injected into the face. The tissue is native to the body, thereby avoiding any negative reactions, such as rejection. Fatty tissues also nourish the face and make the skin appear healthier and more radiant.

It is your personal decision

Remember – getting any surgical procedure, including a facelift, is your own personal decision! Do not succumb to outside pressures in media or those from other people to correct your look. If YOU think it will improve your look, then do it. On the other hand, you should not be ashamed of investing in yourself. Everyone ages, and everyone wants to regain their youth in appearance. Own your decision! People will notice the drastic effects procedures have on your face and admire your new youthful appearance.
