Procedure: Breast Reconstruction Tissue Expander/Implant
This young lady presented to our office with strong family history positive for breast cancer. She, herself, had been diagnosed with BRCA 2 gene. Due to the high risk of breast cancer, the patient desired to undergo prophylactic bilateral mastectomy with immediate reconstruction. On examination, she was found to have asymmetrical large breasts and low nipple position. As the patient wished to have nipples preserved and achieve the best possible breast shape, she first was offered bilateral breast reduction that created breasts of aesthetically pleasing shape and corrected the position of bilateral nipples. Three months after, bilateral mastectomy was performed followed by immediate reconstruction using tissue expanders. The final results depict the patient’s appearance 6 months after replacement of bilateral tissue expanders for permanent silicone implants and fat grafting.
